Great news! Our project is one of 200 organizations accepted to participate in Google Summer of Code this year! This is already a second time we participate in this program and we are absolutely excited about this opportunity to bring our project to a next level. Here’s our organization page and our list of ideas for possible projects. This list is not exhaustive, students are encouraged to come with their own proposals (after having their relevance validated by core developers).

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school. The students have the opportunity to get involved into a real software development process, while the organizations can welcome new contributors working on a valuable features, potentially becoming a regular after the summer is over.

Now it’s a good moment for interested students to get familiar with Synfig’s source code and our development workflow, get in touch with developers to define or refine their project proposal.

We strongly encourage prospective students to start contributing on simple issues before the actual application deadline: we’ll be more likely to pick students who have demonstrated that they can fit into our workflow. The application period takes place from March 17 to April 1 (see full program timeline).

Visit our organization page for more details on the process, how to get started contributing to Synfig and how to prepare your application. Also, feel free to drop in to this thread in our discussion forum.
