Please make sure that you have no jack server running in the background when you hit play (with jack button disabled). The current implementation of Preview Window we have MLT support, so it might lock if audio device is busy (i.e. occupied by jack daemon, for example).

  1. File->Preview
  2. Terminal: killall jackd -9
jackd: no process found
  1. Click "Play" button, doesn't work
  2. Toggle on "Jack" and "Play" works.
  3. Again Terminal: killall jackd -9
  4. Again "Play" doesn't work.

My workstation is Fedora 21.

One more thing I guess that is related: When jack button on canvas view window toolbar is enabled, the play/stop doesn't work in expected way:

Open a new file by default with 5s time

In normal situation without Jack enabled:
  1. Play the animation by clicking "Play", till it ends at 5s.
  2. Click "Skip to begin" button, The animation is staying at frame 0.

In Jack enabled situation:
  1. Play the animation by clicking "Play", till it ends(freezes) at 5s.
  2. Click "Skip to begin" button, The animation continues playing.

It seems when jack enabled, the playing doesn't stop at the end frame.
