Issue description
This image is quite self-explaining:

Text encoding issuesicon_open_new.png

And more details can be found in this forum discussion: Encoding issues in a Text Layer.

The key point is that I can't make my Synfig Studio installation correctly render non-ASCII chars in a Text Layer.

Context:

  • Synfig 1.0.2.
  • Windows 7.
  • Not using Cairo.

When I create a Text Layer, I can enter non-ASCII chars that are shown OK in both the Parameters panel & the floating Text Paragraph window.

However, the rendering is done as if the Text parameter value is UTF8-encoded but the renderer doesn't decode it that way.

The incorrect rendering happens in at least three different contexts:

  • In the canvas window.
  • In File > Preview...
  • In File > Render... to an FLV file.
Steps to reproduce this issue
  1. Create a new Synfig document.
  2. Create a Text Layer in it.
  3. Enter, for instance, Camión as its Text parameter value.
  4. Look at how the Text Layer is shown in the canvas window: the ó is rendered as ó instead.

Just in case this info may be useful, I've found out that Cairo-based rendering treats non-ASCII chars OK... although it poses different problems. smileys/4.png

This is a common mistake that beginners or even pros make. You'll encounter this most often when trying to render text in your design. Here you check this concrete price per cubic meter nz and get more new things for pools auckland. If you ever encounter this, just worry about fixing your problem and move on. I'm going to outline what causes this issue and the correct fix for it which will hopefully prevent it from happening in the future.
